JACK DANIEL’S KICKS OFF BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH SEVEN GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® ATTEMPTS
Record-breaking quest to take place Sept. 1
LYNCHBURG (pop. 361), Tenn. (August 2011) –The Jack Daniel Distillery will honor the 161st birthday of its founder, Jack Daniel, by attempting to place the famed whiskey pioneer in GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® history. In a play off of the whiskey’s “Old No. 7” moniker, Jack Daniel’s will attempt to break not one, but seven world records in one day. Jack fans from across the globe will have the opportunity to join in the historic quest.
In his day, Jack Daniel was an avid entertainer and loved a good celebration. The tradition will continue when Jack Daniel’s hosts a record-breaking birthday bash at South Street Seaport in New York City on Sept.1 from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Jack Daniel’s fans and loyalists from the around the world will have the opportunity to be a part of history, while helping celebrate the man behind the world’s best-selling whiskey. Jack Daniel’s Master Taster Jeff Norman will be the host of this momentous event.
“We are excited to honor Mr. Jack’s birthday in such a unique way,” says Norman. “Jack Daniel’s is known and respected in more than 135 countries, so it’s only fitting to celebrate his birthday by attempting to break a few world records, continuing his tradition of making history.”

Most Contributions to a Greeting Card
Record is for the most individuals to contribute to and sign the same greeting card. This record is measured in the number of unique greetings written in the card by different individuals. Jack fans from around the world can relay birthday greetings to Jack by visiting the brand’s Facebook page and posting a birthday greeting to be transcribed and joined with event attendees’ greetings on a giant birthday card displayed at the live event.
Largest Glass Bottle Mosaic
Record is for the largest two-dimensional mosaic made from glass bottles. This record is measured by the number of whole glass bottles used. Mosaic Artist Herb Williams will use 2,016 Jack Daniel’s bottles to create a large mosaic of a Jack Daniel’s portrait. Known for his unique, large-scale crayon sculptures, press and acclaim for Williams’ art has reached as far as China, Germany, Australia and Japan.
Largest Bottle of Whiskey
Record is for the largest bottle of whiskey by volume. The height and circumference must also be greater than that of the existing record holder. Jack Daniel’s will display the world’s largest whiskey bottle, containing more than 180 liters of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.
Largest Gathering of People Born in the Same Month
Record is for the gathering of the greatest number individuals who share the same birth month at a single venue. Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel was born in Lynchburg, Tenn. in September 1850, but his exact birth date is unknown because his birth records were likely lost to fire or the passage of time. Therefore, each year the folks at Jack Daniel’s celebrate his birthday all month long. So for this record attempt, no matter the day, Jack Daniel’s fans born in the month of September are welcome to join other September birthdays for a minimum of five minutes to become a part of history.
Most Bottles Played (bottle orchestra)
Record is for the greatest number of bottles used to play a single tune on glass bottles at the same time at a single venue. More than 470 tuned Jack Daniel’s bottles will be used for a rendition of “Happy Birthday” dedicated to Jack and all September birthdays.
Most People Blowing Out Candles Simultaneously
Record is for the greatest number of people blowing out a candle simultaneously at a single venue. Jack Daniel’s will provide 250 lit candles for attendees to blow out in unison in honor of Jack and his fellow birthday friends.
Fastest Time to Build a 20 Shot Glass Pyramid
Record is for the fastest time to complete a pyramid consisting of 20 shot glasses. This record is measured in hours, minutes and seconds to the nearest 100th of a second. Jack Daniel’s fans willing to show their skill and speed will have the opportunity to make history by quickly stacking 20 Jack Daniel’s shot glasses in 30 seconds or less.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® Official Adjudicator, Kimberly Patrick will attend the event to validate the above achievements. If records are attained, Patrick will also present official certification to Jack Daniel’s at the completion of the event.
