Fans of limited-edition spirits have a new bottle to chase.
Fort Worth-based La Pulga Tequila has unveiled a limited-edition reposado tequila finished in barrels previously used for Still Austin Whiskey Co.’s Bottled in Bond Red Corn Bourbon, creating a uniquely Texas take on barrel-aged agave spirits.
The expression begins as a seven-month reposado crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco before undergoing a second maturation in freshly harvested Still Austin Red Corn Bourbon barrels. The additional aging imparts layers of spice, oak, and subtle sweetness while preserving the tequila’s agave-forward character.
“This is one of those bottles that just makes you stop and say, ‘okay, this is something really special,’” said La Pulga co-founder Sarah Castillo.
The bottle features La Pulga’s signature alebrije-inspired artwork, highlighted by a red serpent that symbolizes transformation and serves as a nod to the red snake imagery found on Still Austin’s Red Corn Bourbon label. A red commemorative medallion around the neck marks a first for the brand.
Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), the tequila is produced in small batches and will be a one-time release. For bartenders, the whiskey-barrel influence makes it a versatile option for spirit-forward cocktails that bridge the worlds of tequila and bourbon.
