Maxwell Britten's Passion for Bartending
Maxwell Britten, a bartender at Freemans, was named a Rising Star in mixology by StarChefs earlier this year. Bartending was an accident for Britten, but it quickly became a passion as he found himself drawn to the world of food and beverage.
Britten is known for his classic, aromatic drinks that tend toward the dark and complex, boozy and stirred. He prefers to be called a bartender rather than a "mixologist" or "bar chef," as he believes those who give themselves such titles "probably aren't a very good bartender."
Launching a Pop-up Supper Club
Britten has plans to launch an invite-only pop-up supper club, to be held monthly at secret locations throughout the city. The Tucson native and his brother last year founded Jigger, Beaker & Flask, a mixology consulting firm named for the iconic cocktail tome by Charles H. Baker.
The pop-up supper club will have a limited number of seats available, and Britten is exclusive about the company he dines with, inviting people with a background and trade that he respects. Those interested in attending can email Jigger, Beaker & Flask to try their luck.
