Mijenta Explores Mexico’s Agave Heartlands with Maestra Selection No. 2

Tequila Crafted from Agaves from All Five States in the Denomination of Origin

A Blend of Five Terroirs. One Masterfully Crafted Tequila.

For bartenders who thrive on storytelling in every sip, Mijenta’s newest release is a love letter to Mexico’s agave landscapes.

Introducing Maestra Selection No. 2, a bold and rare expression that dives deep into the complexity of terroir, crafted from agaves sourced across all five states within the Tequila Denomination of Origin—Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas.

This limited-edition bottling isn’t just another rare pour—it’s a showcase of how climate, elevation, and soil shape flavor. For behind-the-bar professionals and spirits geeks alike, it’s an invitation to explore the agave’s roots—literally.

A Tequila Born from Curiosity and Craft

Mijenta’s celebrated Maestra Tequilera, Ana María Romero, approached this release with a winemaker’s mindset. “I’ve always been fascinated by terroir,” Romero says. “With Maestra Selection No. 2, I wanted to celebrate the diversity of agave across Mexico—not just in variety, but in voice.”

Each region brings its own flavor fingerprint:

  • Guanajuato: Warm notes of caramel and spice
  • Michoacán: Citrus and red fruits
  • Nayarit: Preserved fruits, herbs, and almond
  • Tamaulipas: Mint, fresh grass, and sage
  • Jalisco: Balanced herbal and citrus character

These agaves were distilled separately, then meticulously blended by Romero to preserve their individual soul while creating a harmonious whole.

Tasting Notes

At 40% ABV, Maestra Selection No. 2 reveals:

  • Aromas: Caramelized coconut, vanilla, roasted agave, lemon zest, and pineapple
  • Spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, tonka pepper
  • Herbals: Fresh mint, spearmint, sage, freshly cut grass
  • Floral finish: Hints of rose and subtle elegance

Overall, this is a tequila with the elegance of a fine Cognac, the balance of a master blend, and a complexity that invites bartenders to serve it neat—or build inspired signature cocktails that tell its story.

Label by Castellanos

To honor the spirit of the land, Mexico City-based artist Sophia Castellanos designed the packaging, assigning symbolic animals to each region—like the butterfly of Michoacán (transformation), the hummingbird of Jalisco (vitality), and Tenek, the mythical half-fish, half-crocodile guardian of Tamaulipas.

Even the five-sided bottle pays tribute to the five states that gave the tequila life.
