Another look at the Mint Julep
The 140th running of the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday and in honor of this special event, here is a gourmet recipe for the iconic Mint Julep from the 2014 American Micro Whiskey of the Year award winner, Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey, for your readers! The Garrison Brothers Peach Mint Julep:
Ingredients:
- 3 ounces of Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- fresh mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- Local peaches
In a shaker, gently muddle 6 mint leaves, peach slices and the sugar together. Add ice to the shaker and pour the Garrison Brothers neatly over the mixture. Stir, not shake, rapidly until the mixture is cold enough to your liking. Pour into old fashion glasses and garnish the drinks with mint leaves.
